An international membership organization that is a network of management consulting associations and institutes around the world, the International Council of Management Consulting Institutes ICMCI or CMC-Global has launched the Future Leaders Forum as a call to young consultants to help shape the future of management consulting. ICMCI held the first meeting of the new Future Leaders Forum on November 21, 2021. It was attended by young consultants from around the world under agreed conditions aimed at enriching the conversation about the future of management consulting (cmc-global.org).
ICMCI Chairman Robert Bodenstein commented on the initiative: "At ICMCI, we are pleased to mobilize our global resources to help young colleagues. Through the Future Leaders Forum, they can grow professionally and individually and take advantage of unique opportunities to share their experiences. In turn, Gergana Mantarkova, director of the ICMCI Council and leader of the Future of Management Consulting initiatives, noted that the creation of such a community can influence decision-making on the future of management consulting, as well as contribute to positive changes in the world (cmc-global.org).
This initiative offers a platform for the exchange of views on the management consulting profession, as well as for the pooling of knowledge for the benefit of both clients and consultants. In addition, the ICMCI Future Leaders Forum aims to develop a strong international network and leadership skills on the global stage.
In addition, as part of the new Future Leaders Forum, the "My Leadership Moments" discussion series was launched in which well-known leadership consultants share highlights of their experiences to help young colleagues shape their futures. The first session of these discussions took place on December 7, 2021, where Robert Bodenstein shared some details about his career in management consulting. As his moment of leadership, Robert Bodenstein highlighted his chairmanship of the ISO committee that developed ISO 20700. In addition, Robert Bodenstein shared lessons from his consulting experience, here are some of them cmc-global.org:
- Leadership is a service: it's not about being the "boss," it's about providing a service to others;
- Leadership in consulting and in volunteer organizations means being sensitive, respecting diversity, and guiding others to achieve common goals;
- Being authentic in leadership is the key competence to motivate and gain trust;
- For consultants and leaders it is crucial to be curious and to learn, and to always be at least one step ahead of others.
